The world keeps turning
December 31, 2008
The world just keeps on turning – I notice that abstract painting seems to be coming to the fore again – albeit with the flavour of cool PM irony and without the messianic stridency of the abstractionists of the last century.
Don’t throw your old clothes away – they will eventually come into fashion again – so here I am – looking at abstract paintings painted in the last year – and very good as well – even if some of them are a bit art-and-culture incestuous (in that post-modern way).
Some painters whose work I constantly return to – really good painters in my view:
Peter Doig
Daniel Hesidence
Ruth Root
Ken Currie
Paul Klee
Max Ernst
I am exploring ways of striking patterns against referential images
- count these as studies for paintings
